Colonial Bohea Tea

Sort by:

Bohea (pronounced “Boo-Hee”) is a distinctive black tea blend with a light smoky flavor. The tea is composed of larger, less expensive tea leaves that are lower down the branch, although in colonial times bohea was considered a higher quality tea.  The consumption was so widespread that in the 19th century bohea became the common word for tea. It was imported in larger quantities than all other teas combined, and it was the majority of tea destroyed during tea tax protests in revolutionary America.
