Colonial Remedies are created from herbal recipes that were commonly used during the 18th century. While various herbal tonics were employed in the colonial period to help with occasional discomforts, many of these infusions have helped shape Western medicine.
Colonial Remedy No. 3 is the vibrant herb of peppermint. Peppermint is commonly used to freshen the breath and open the sinuses during allergy season but is also used to clear the mind of occasional fogginess. If that morning cup of coffee doesn’t do the trick, try a cup of peppermint tea.
Colonial Remedy No. 4 is chamomile, a calming herb. These flower blossoms create a bright yellow tea that has a soft and warm taste of apples that can calm the mind and body from occasional tension and stress. This caffeine-free tea is commonly sipped before bed to place the mind and body into a soothing state of relaxation.
Ginger is not only used as a spice for foods. It is commonly employed to aid in digestion, and to calm the stomach. It brings warmth and comfort to the body and lungs with the fragrant spice that can be eaten raw or steeped as a tea.
Lemon Balm is Colonial Remedy No. 6, a soft citrus aroma that uplifts the spirit for a more youthful feeling. This brightly flavored tea may add a blissful delight to the day as a pick-me-up during lunch or after a long week. This uplifting herb could be enjoyed as a warm tea or as a cold drink.
Finally, cinnamon is Colonial Remedy No. 7. This rich bark is dried till curled to form a hollow stick. This spice is much like ginger but with a sweeter taste and aroma. Cinnamon is wonderful for occasional indigestion and upset stomach while also having a slight calming effect of warmth. No 7b contains cut and sifted cinnamon in convenient teabag form to allow you to add a touch of cinnamon to any drink you choose, or just drink it plain.
